PRE AND POSTNATAL YOGA
Birthlight Foundation Certificate Course
3rd - 6th May

This is a Foundation course leading to the Diploma course and the Trainers' Diploma course. It is most suitable for qualified yoga teachers, but midwives and other health professionals with experience of yoga are welcome to apply.


Goals and Objectives

This course enables students to develop a practical understanding of the way classic yoga can be adapted to the demands of pregnancy childbirth and the postpartum.

The course blends western knowledge of anatomy and physiology with an understanding of traditional yoga techniques and Ayurvedic teaching.
It has been developed after over ten years of teaching and training at the Biomedical Trust in London and also includes many aspects of Yoga Therapy.

Our style is interactive and very practical. We will gear the content to your individual needs, and we have a reputation for responding to issues as they arise. We make sure that the material can be assimilated by all participants in a non-competitive and supportive atmosphere.


The Full Birthlight Qualification

This course is the foundation which leads to the full Birthlight teaching qualification after completion of at least 6 months of assessed practical work (with classes) and some written assignments.

The Diploma is awarded after a short 2 day follow up course.


Course Contents:

· Anatomy and physiology of pregnancy and childbirth
· Maintaining the alignment of the spine through pregnancy and after birth.
· Using the pelvic ligaments and muscles
· Deep breathing and the pelvic muscles
· Yoga and the psychosomatic dimensions of pregnancy
· Yogic breathing in pregnancy and childbirth
· The application of yoga in the preparation for labour and birth
· Techniques for teaching relaxation
· Helping women make their own choices during pregnancy and birth.
· Yoga after birth - muscle toning, posture and emotional well-being.
· Balancing possible pathologies with the normal.
· An introduction to Baby Yoga and massage.
· Teaching yoga to parents and couples.
· Class management and liasing with health professionals.
· Yoga for the greater enjoyment of pregnancy, birth and babies.

A two-day Massage in Schools training course will be held with our new trainers.

BABY YOGA
Birthlight Foundation Certificate Course

This is a Foundation course leading to the Diploma course and the Trainers' Diploma course. It is suitable for yoga teachers experienced in teaching pre-natal and postnatal yoga and for health professionals and those working with babies, particularly with previous experience in infant massage.


Goals and Objectives

This course enables students to develop a practical understanding of the way classic yoga can be adapted for babies.

The course blends western knowledge of anatomy and physiology with an understanding of traditional yoga techniques and Ayurvedic teaching.

Our style is interactive and very practical. We will gear the content to your individual needs, and we have a reputation for responding to issues as they arise. We make sure that the material can be assimilated by all participants in a non-competitive and supportive atmosphere.

o Introduction to anatomy, physiology, infant development and infant psychology relevant to the application of yoga to babies.
o Indian baby massage through to adapted yoga for babies.
o Tested massage and yoga sequences to prevent and alleviate babies' common ailments (colic, crying, poor sleep), and to promote optimal overall development.
o Ways of handling babies with ease and confidence using yoga principles.
o Yoga for parent and baby together, integrating suitable postnatal stretches, deep relaxation, use of yoga breathing techniques, in-depth muscle toning - and creating a joyful interaction.
o The emotions and dynamics of attachment between parents and babies, group dynamics and role-play in an interactive way.
o Guidelines for holding effective and enjoyable classes in Baby Yoga & Massage.

Cost: €600 including manual, tuition, refreshments and lunch.
